Woman entrepreneur finds new product to reduce sexual harassment — here’s how
Women are harassed at night so frequently even in 2022: because people think they can easily get away with it. A UK woman’s entrepreneurial spirit may be the catalyst for helping reduce this.
Penny, 29, is an entrepreneur who loves to think of solutions to any and every problem. If there’s a solution more desperately needed than reducing sexual harassment and assault, we might not have heard of it.
The product behind this solution? Meet Angela.
Angela is a simple but effective product designed to create a blaring alert to surrounding pedestrians instantaneously.
Any woman who feels unsafe walking alone can carry this tool — no larger than a pack of gum — on their keyring. On this device is an alarm that produces sound up to 130db, and a flashlight that illuminates 200 lumens.
For reference, 130db is the threshold of pain for our ears, and 200 lumens is the equivalent of 200 candles.
At a moment’s notice, this will simultaneously get the attention of anyone within 200m and distract the suspected attacker.
Since its release, Penny has received lot's of emails from customers who’ve thanked her, as if it deters at least one dangerous situation Angela's done it's job.
Every woman in the world has been affected by sexual harassment in one way or another, and Penny is no different.
Penny’s mission is to have Angela on every woman’s keychain by 2025.
“There’s nothing scarier than feeling like you can’t be heard as a woman,” says Penny.
“As much as we’d like to believe that the world is a safe place for everyone, that’s just not realistic. Women need an ally who can protect them at any moment. If it can’t be a friend or close family member, it can be Angela.”
Penny has only been in business with Angela since November 2021, and she’s already served 1000+ women in a meaningful way.
Penny's determined spirit will allow her to make a significant impact that is directly responsible for providing safety and security to women of the world at an affordable price.
